Contemplation and obscurity

The night has arrived.
No more natural day that proposes a rythm for your life. No warm and careful carressing by the nature. Only windows that seem to be barricaded with black planks.
From time to time greenish pale northern lights fill the sky, and at least the scientists are reminded of the sun and it's principally intense emission of energy.
It feels very arbitrary to get up in the morning.






Sysselmannen makes his servants perform a demonstration of power illuminated by the last light. Officially masked as "compulsory safety instruction" for the UNIS staff and the students the Sysselmannen-helicopter showed the political leitmotiv. The tents next to the landing site flew through the air like funny scraps of paper.

The bended nozzle in the upper part is said to emitt consumption-amplifiyng pheromones. Six by six bunches of bottles also seem to be suitable in the arctic, a definite proof is still to be delivered.

If you wnat to observe northern lights, you have to suffer. After the summer all the domes need careful cleaning. Due to the darkness pure alcohol only can be applied.


As all the students are true friends of mother nature neither snow nor darkness can make them leaving out a single opportunity to go out. I wonder what that biggest rifle can be good for in the total obscurity. At least the instinctive fear and vigilance in the darkness make sense then.


Below -20 I don't merely get a maniac expression of fascination in my face but also nice rime on the eye lashes. A state of superior bliss!!


The shoes' room (in every house) resembles the armoury chamber of a knight. Here you robe your coldness armour every day, in order to be able to withstand the severe climate that wants to knock yoo off your horse as soon as you go out.
The Tuboka is remarkable. You have to sign out when you leave, writing down all your arctic prosthesis you have with you (rifle, VHF, windbag, etc.) and your time of latest return. If you are not back then, Sysselmannen is called.


The corridor of the students hostels is very normal.


Brewing beer on 78 N. Not exactly according to the "deutsches Reinheitsgebot" (german law of purity) beer is recently also brewed on Svalbard.
Absolutt drikkbart by Bryggeri 4 has to be considered as successful mission.

Sometimes the darkness leads to desperate actions. But ordinary lamps can reveal magic powers of transportation. Otherwise you would be completely deserted. A silent whimpering, and yet...
